FAQs

How do I know if it is for sure anxiety?

This isn’t a straightforward answer because anxiety can look so different from person to person. For some it’s a tight chest and sweaty hands, for others it’s social avoidance and anger outbursts- but it can be everything in between too. Coming to counselling can help us establish if it’s anxiety, or perhaps something else.

I don’t want someone to just tell me to breathe.

Honestly, we don’t blame you. Breathing is just one of the grounding techniques that can be used, and although important in regulating breathing and heart rate- it’s only a small portion of treatment. We like to get to the root of the anxiety- what is the inner dialogue or belief system and how do we find out where it originated from and how to challenge it both proactively and reactively.

I’m afraid this wont ever change.

That’s not an uncommon fear. When you’ve been struggling with something for so long or feel that it’s gained control over you- it can be hard to imagine life without it or life with you in charge again. We have many success stories, and we’d love to add you to our list.

Can you prescribe medication?

No sorry, we don’t prescribe medication, but we do offer a supporting letter that you can bring to your doctor which indicates what we’ve discussed in session, why we believe it’s anxiety and that we are advocating for medication to go along side therapeutic treatment.

I already paid for a counsellor else where but we didn’t click- I don’t have a lot of benefits either- how do I know I’ll click here.

We offer free consults so you can talk 1 on 1 with one, or all of the therapists at our practice. Vet us, we encourage it- because we know finances are never infinite- and you deserve someone you click with. Also, keep in mind that once benefits are used in their entirety- we switch our clients to a sliding scale based on income and children in the home.

If you don’t have benefits, please- PLEASE- don’t hesitate to contact us about our sliding scale. We promise it’s easy to access, and brings ZERO shame- we offer it because it’s important to us that everyone receives help.

I use to go out with friends and feel immediately sick to my stomach, even if we did something I loved. Eventually I started crying in the bathroom of wherever we were and that was my kick in the pants to get help. I did consults with two of the counsellors and hit it off with Chay, zero regrets. She helped me realize my anxiety was talking horribly to me, about me, and I was psyching myself out. I’m way nicer to myself now!”

I was resistant to therapy, resistant to meds, and avoidant to taking care of myself. When I went to therapy before I found my therapist was too upbeat it was hard to feel like she saw me, when I met with Chelsea it felt, just different. It was just a calm experience the entire time, and changed my view on a lot. I learnt that most of my ideas about mental health weren’t even my own, but were what I had heard people say growing up.”
