Hello! If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering “who is Kat?” Well, I’m a counsellor, a mother, a reader, and an avid energy drink consumer.
My Path To Counselling
Helping others is important to me. I chose to become a counsellor because I learned from a very young age that people are more than their struggles. A close family member struggled with addiction, and as a kid I saw them as a person who was struggling and didn’t love them any less for it. I’ve had struggles of my own in the years since. My biggest mental health hurdle was the transition into motherhood. It’s surprising all the parts of yourself that feel lost along the way, and how many of those change or don’t come back. For me, personally, I struggled with big emotions, particularly anger. This subsided with therapy and as my kid got older, but there are still moments where I feel out of control. I want to be the support for people who just need someone in their corner.
My Approach To Therapy
Since you’re probably here to find out more about me as a counsellor and less about me as a comedian, let’s get into that. My approach to all types of counselling is to let you lead and collaborate with you on achieving your goals as an individual, couple, or family. I use a variety of therapy techniques and believe that you are the expert in your own life. When it comes to couples and family counselling, I’m not here to take sides; I want everyone to feel heard.
I’m a non-judgmental person with a very complicated personal history. There is nothing that you can share with me that will make me think less of you, and there is no reason for you to feel anxiety leading up to your first session - but I totally understand if you do. I love working with people from all backgrounds. Everyone is so different, and meeting new people and hearing their story is a big part of why I love what I do.
